Description
The Butterfly Nebula, cataloged as NGC 6302, is a planetary nebula shaped by material expelled from a dying star. Two broad lobes of heated gas extend from a dense, dark band surrounding the hidden stellar remnant.
The nebula’s bipolar structure and intense color create one of Hubble’s most recognizable portraits of stellar transformation.
Produced from ESA/Hubble’s official 3,526 × 4,110 master, this artwork is intentionally limited to 8 × 10 paper and framed-and-matted presentations. Both choices remain above 300 PPI without artificial enlargement.
