Description

Herbig-Haro 49/50 is a luminous outflow driven by a still-forming star in the Chamaeleon I cloud complex. Webb’s combined near- and mid-infrared view resolves wave-like structures and heated gas throughout the reddish-orange jet.

At the apparent tip of the outflow, a distant face-on spiral galaxy creates a striking chance alignment. The nearby stellar jet and faraway galaxy occupy the same line of sight while belonging to vastly different scales and distances.

Produced from the official 4,152 × 5,044 master, every selected paper, framed-and-matted, and stretched-canvas size remains above 300 PPI.
