Description

Artemis II in Eclipse captures the Moon completely blocking the Sun during the Artemis II crew’s lunar flyby on April 6, 2026. From Orion’s vantage point beyond Earth, the Moon produced nearly 54 minutes of totality, revealing a broad halo against a field of stars.

The faintly illuminated nearside of the Moon is visible within the dark silhouette, lit by sunlight reflected from Earth. NASA scientists continue to study whether the surrounding glow is produced by the solar corona, zodiacal light, or a combination of the two.

Produced from NASA’s full-resolution 8,256 × 5,504 original, each available paper, framed-and-matted, and stretched-canvas size preserves the native 3:2 composition without cropping and maintains more than 300 pixels per printed inch.
