Description

Rho Ophiuchi is the closest star-forming region to Earth, located about 390 light-years away. Webb’s NIRCam turns its dust and gas into an impressionistic landscape filled with newly forming stars.

Red jets of molecular hydrogen mark material ejected by young stars, while a glowing cave carved by stellar winds surrounds the bright star S1. Dark pinched shadows indicate circumstellar disks where planetary systems may eventually form.

Produced from NASA’s official 12,778 × 11,968 print master, every offered paper, framed-and-matted, and 16-inch stretched-canvas size remains above 300 PPI with a restrained centered square crop.
