Description
NGC 2841 is a flocculent spiral galaxy, distinguished by short, fragmented arms rather than the sweeping continuous structure of a grand-design spiral. Hubble reveals layered dust lanes, older whitish stars, and clusters of young blue stars around its bright central region.
The image combines ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared observations from Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3. Together, those wavelengths reveal subtle color and structure throughout the galaxy’s crowded inner regions.
