Description
Cassiopeia A is the expanding remnant of a massive star whose explosion sent newly formed elements into space. Webb’s NIRCam image resolves bright pink and orange knots of sulfur, oxygen, argon, and neon within a complex shell of gas and dust.
Wispy material surrounds and fills the remnant, while tiny structures show where stellar debris collides with circumstellar gas shed before the explosion. The near-square composition creates a concentrated portrait of stellar destruction and renewal.
Produced from the official 11,694 × 13,392 master, every available paper, framed-and-matted, and stretched-canvas size remains above 300 PPI with a restrained centered square crop.
