Description

Shadows Across Vavilov Crater presents a close view of one of the Moon’s far-side landmarks, photographed by the Artemis II crew with a handheld camera and a 400 mm lens. Vavilov sits on the rim of the older, much larger Hertzsprung basin.

Long shadows near the lunar terminator emphasize the crater’s rim, ejecta, and surrounding relief. The image also shows the transition from smoother material within Hertzsprung’s inner mountain ring to the rugged terrain beyond it.

Produced from NASA’s official 5,568 × 3,712 original, the paper and framed presentations preserve the native 3:2 composition. The 16 × 12-inch stretched canvas uses a restrained centered crop, and every available option remains above Space Art Studio’s 300-PPI quality standard.
