Description

Arp 273, often nicknamed “The Rose,” captures two galaxies shaped by a close gravitational encounter. Located roughly 300 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda, the pair forms one of the most graceful compositions photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope.

The larger galaxy, UGC 1810, has been drawn into a sweeping spiral that resembles the petals of a rose. Below it, the smaller UGC 1813 appears like a slender stem. Hubble’s detailed view reveals glowing galactic cores, delicate lanes of cosmic dust, and brilliant blue regions where clusters of young stars are forming.

Released for the 21st anniversary of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, the image combines ultraviolet and visible-light observations from Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3. Its warm galactic centers, cool blue spiral arms, and balanced composition create an elegant presence for a living space, office, study, or astronomy collection.

Produced from the official full-resolution 7,887 × 7,994 image, every available paper, framed-and-matted, and stretched-canvas size maintains more than 300 pixels per printed inch while preserving the near-square composition.
